How much do you know about Washington D.C.?

It's time to explore the Nation's Capital. This event will be great for those who are new to the area, and even those individuals who are native to the DC area, but have not really toured the area since middle school. We will meet in the main hall of Union Station by the Center Cafe at 10:00 am to distribute the tickets. We will then head to the trolley at 10:30 am to board and begin our tour. It is very important that you arrive one time, because the trolley will leave as scheduled. To arrive at Union Station, just catch the Red Line on the Metro and get off at the Union Station stop. If you decided to drive, Union Station has a garage, and street parking is free on the weekend, but hard to come by. Below are the stops along the tour.

Stop 1- Union Station/Smithsonian Postal Museum
Stop 2- U.S. Capitol/Supreme Court/Library of Congress
Stop 3- Smithsonian Air & Space Museum/Museum of the American Indian/U.S. Botanic Gardens
Stop 4- Jefferson Memorial/George Mason Memorial
Stop 5- FDR Memorial
Stop 6- Lincoln Memorial Complex/Arlington Cemetery Includes Vietnam Veterans, Korean War and WWII Memorials
Stop 7- National Museum of American History/Washington Monument (2:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

Here is where we will get off for lunch. We will walk over to the food court of the Ronald Regan Building for the following selections:

14th Street Deli, Bassett's Original Turkey, Buck's County Coffee, City Lights of China Express, Everything Yogurt and Salad Café, Flamers Charbroiled Hamburgers and Chicken, Gelatissimo, Great Wraps, Kabuki Sushi and Teriyaki, Kelly's Cajun Grill, Larry's Cookies and Ice Cream, Mr. Pretzels, Nach–O Fast, Quick Pita, R&B Steak and Grill, Sbarro, Smoothie King, Subway

Stop 8- National Museum of Natural History
Stop 9- Newseum
Stop 10- Washington Welcome Center/Fords Theatre/Peterson House/transfer to Hotel Shuttle transport - The tour will end here. You will be just a few blocks away from Gallery Place/Chinatown metro station (red, green, yellow lines.)

For those who would like to continue on, we will walk a couple of blocks to the National Portrait Gallery to check out the hip-hop exhibit entitled "RECOGNIZE!" Hip Hop and Contemporary Portraiture" which is free.

A little about the Old Town Trolley:
As a DC resident, I assure you that Old Town Trolley Tours is one of the best way to see the city. They cover the entire city, and you can avoid costly parking and city driving. The tour is also designed so that you can hop on and off and explore on your own at any time. In addition, you will receive at FREE Full-Color Washington, D.C. Guidebook and enjoy Washington DC's most comprehensive fully narrated tour by their conductors.

A little about "RECOGNIZE!" Hip Hop and Contemporary Portraiture":
The six artists and one poet whose work is included in "RECOGNIZE!" have approached hip hop culture through the lens of portraiture, and, in combination, their contributions highlight its vitality and beauty. Hip hop has inspired people throughout its history to use their minds and their talent to create something larger than simply themselves. Whether they have found expression DJ-ing, MC-ing, break-dancing, or art-making, hip hop has given voice and visibility to a new generation.

You must pay in advance!

Thanks,
Kim C.
